Let Setra Systems take the sticky out of your summer.

In many locations across the United States, temperatures are packing a wallop this summer, well above normal levels. From office buildings to schools, hospitals, factories and more, people have been seriously cooking in the last few months, and not in fun, summertime BBQ-kinds of ways.

But it’s a dry heat, right?

No way. Hot weather plus humidity leads to some truly uncomfortable conditions where a day at the office can feel like eight hours in the sauna – but for a limited time, Setra Systems and Alps Controls have a solution.

Right now, you can save up to 20% on all of Setra Systems’ humidity and combo sensors.

Yes, that’s all of them: room and duct humidity sensors, combination temperature/humidity transmitters and more. And to make things even cooler, Setra Systems has added active temperature outputs on every combo unit. Just add a combo unit to your cart and specify if you want current (4 – 20 ma) or voltage (selectable 0-5 VDC or 0-10 VDC). Simple.

So if you’d like to save some money and you’re tired of your clothes feeling as sticky as a Florida swamp, slide over to the Alps Controls e-catalog site and drop some Setra Systems humidity and combo sensors into your shopping cart today.

The new Ventostat from GE Sensing is now available in all configurations with next-day shipping!

GE Sensing introduced their new Telaire Ventostat 8000 series to us at Alps Controls several months ago; it’s the first of its kind on the market that can measure temperature, humidity and CO2 all in one compact sensor. GE Sensing has created an innovative new design for the Ventostat which distributes any heat generated by the unit’s power source and sensor technology and distributes it outside of the sensor’s case – ensuring accuracy and proper calibration of the unit. What’s more, having only one sensor do the work of three cuts down on installation and maintenance costs, and makes it easier to meet aesthetic design requirements.

And right now the Alps Controls e-catalog site has all of the Ventostat 8000 series configurations available with next-day shipping – so take a look at this video in which GE Sensing Global Product Manager Chris Ranwell introduces the new sensor:

Dave Meyers and Ken Siefert have been named finalists in this year’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

May 12 2010

dave meyers and ken siefert of alps controlsVery cool news this morning: our President Dave Meyers and Vice President & Director of eBusiness Systems Ken Siefert have been named finalists in the 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for the Western Pennsylvania/West Virginia/Upstate New York Area Region.

From the E&Y website, the Entrepreneur of the Year Regional Awards are

…the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs. Recognized globally, the award honors the most outstanding entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.

Believing that entrepreneurial spirit and innovation can be the fuels to global economic recovery, Ernst & Young recognizes entrepreneurs annually through regional, national and global awards.

During the application and interview process, the folks at Ernst & Young have learned a lot about Alps Controls’ transactional e-distribution model and how Dave and Ken have brought the power of online commerce to the traditionally inefficient building controls supply chain process. Since 1993, we’ve developed a custom-made, web-based application to sell HVAC and building automation products to contractors, and we’ve provided our industry’s manufacturers with a way to market and sell direct to customers by eliminating the need for distributor warehouses, their associated costs and carbon footprint.

The Alps Controls business model is hyper-efficient, cost-effective, paperless, and provides vast benefits to both customers and manufacturers. We now sell products for more than 130 manufacturers (and we’re adding an additional two every month), and we’ve experienced 10% – 20% growth year after year, despite the economic downturn.

Congrats, Dave and Ken! Everyone at Alps Controls is excited to be a part of such an innovative and industry-changing company!

At our e-catalog site alpscontrols.com we’ve got a page called Talking Heads where you can watch videos about our company, our HVAC and building controls manufacturer partners, our website capabilities, and a whole lot more.

And yes, you should think of it as an added bonus that the Talking Heads page often features our own Alps Controls employees, doing our best to provide you with insight into our work, our business, our outlook and the industry we share. Plus, you get to take a look at the very same people that maybe you only usually get to talk to on the phone.

We’ve begun a regular series called 5:00 pm. 5 Questions in which – just in case its title didn’t pretty much tell you everything you needed to know – I pose a near half-dozen softball queries to someone right at the end of the day when they’d really rather be on the way home. It’s my hope that their answers will delight, inform, amaze and bewilder you, if only for a few precious minutes.

Find out who would come out on top of a classic sci-fi deathmatch in this 5PM5Qs with our Webmaster/DBA Chuck Benscoter:

And here you can learn what might be for dinner tonight when 5PM5Qs sits down with Sales Representative extraordinaire Wendy Siefert:
